History
Newport Pacific High School has a rich history that dates back to 1891. The school was originally established as the Newport School of Practical Arts and later renamed the Newport School of Commerce. Classes were held in a variety of locations before the current campus was built on Ocean Avenue in 1927. The original building, now known as Building A, still stands and is used for administrative purposes.
Over the years, NPHS has seen numerous changes and adaptions to meet the needs of its students. In 1975, NPHS became an open-enrollment high school and in 1984 it became a charter school. In 2002, NPHS opened its doors to transgender students when it became one of the first schools in California to do so.
Today, NPHS is home to over 2,000 students who come from all walks of life.
